Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

The ones that always come up in the first meeting about applications

How do I know whether there is a grant for my company?

You tell us what the company does, where it is, how many people it has and what it is going to invest in or who it is going to hire. With that, we go through the programmes that are open and the ones that are planned, and tell you which apply, which do not and why.

Is my company too small for these grants?

Rarely. There are IEFP measures and startup support designed for companies with few employees. What usually rules a company out is not its size: it is its standing with the Portuguese Tax Authority and Social Security, or the expense having already been made.

Can I start the investment before applying?

Talk to us before you order, sign or pay. In many programmes, expenses made before the application is submitted no longer count. We tell you what the call in question allows, so you do not lose the grant over a matter of dates.

What exactly is SIFIDE II?

A tax benefit for investment in Research and Development: part of those expenses is deducted from the corporate income tax (IRC) due. Many companies do R&D without calling it that, when they develop a new product or process, and have never applied.

How long does an application take?

It depends on the programme and on the deadlines in the call. We tell you the closing date in the first analysis and what we need from you until then, usually supplier quotes, financial information and the project description.

Does your support end at approval?

No. It is after approval that the work tightens: payment claims, proof of expenditure, meeting the obligations in the contract and closing the project. We stay with you to the end, because a grant that is approved and badly executed may have to be paid back.

And if the application is not approved?

You receive the grounds for the decision and we look with you at what makes sense: challenging it, reworking it for another call or waiting for the next one.

Do my accounts have to be with you?

No. But, to receive the money, the company must be in good standing with the Tax Authority and Social Security, and have its accounts in order, because that is where the application data comes from.
